JSF Wing Lift / Rotate Assembly
The concept drawing shows a transfer tool and the wing engineering from the Joint Strike Fighter. Minarik Corporation was asked to provide a full motion control package that would lift and rotate the entire tool and engineering while still mounted to the tooling dolly, so that the wing could be loaded and unloaded at different work stations throughout the wing assembly process. The lift and rotate was accomplished by using a pair custom linear slides with a center rotating bearings and gearboxes at each end of the dolly. The 4-axis synchronization of actuation was accomplished by taking advantage of a feature similar to electronic gearing, while using Danaher AKM servos and S200 drives. The sequence of operation and control logic required an Aromat PLC. The operational interface utilized an Aromat GT-30 touch screen to provide easy to operate, customized screens for safe lift and rotation of the wing. Turck sensors were used for over travel protection and part presence. A shorter version of the same dolly was also designed for half sections of the wing assembly and functions in exactly the same fashion as the full wing assembly. Minarik Corporation provided this customer the linear actuators, electrical enclosure, operator interface, and programming.
